Nifty ends nearly half percent lower on Wednesday.

Indian equity benchmark -- Nifty ended lower with cut of nearly half a percent on Wednesday amid uncertainty over ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Iran has threatened to target infrastructure across the Middle East if its security concerns were not addressed.  After making a negative start, the index altered between positive and negative territory for most of the session. as exchange data showed foreign institutional investors continued their selling spree, offloading Indian equities worth Rs 9,980.22 crore on September 29, 2026. In the latter half of the session, the index intensified its losses and ended near the 22,600 mark. 

Traders were seen piling up positions in Media, Realty and Cement stocks, while selling was witnessed in Pharma, Metal and Consumer Durables. The top gainers from the F&O segment were Solar Industries India, ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company and Prestige Estates Projects. On the other hand, the top losers were Fortis Healthcare, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise and Max Healthcare Institute. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 23400 - 23600 calls and 22900 - 23100 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.

India Volatility Index (VIX), a gauge for market’s short-term expectation of volatility increased by 0.61% and reached 13.50. The 50 share Nifty down by 95.75 point or 0.42% to settle at 22,620.45.

Nifty October 2026 futures closed at 22700.00 (LTP) on Wednesday, at a premium of 79.55 points over spot closing of 22620.45, while Nifty November 2026 futures ended at 22826.60 (LTP), at a premium of 206.15 points over spot closing. Nifty October futures saw an addition of 16,063 units, taking the total open interest (Contracts) to 2,79,682 units. The near month derivatives contract will expire on October 27, 2026. From the most active contracts, HDFC Bank October 2026 futures traded at a premium of 5.95 points at 714.65 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 708.70. The numbers of contracts traded were 38,017. (Provisional)

Infosys October 2026 futures traded at a premium of 9.70 points at 1003.80 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 994.10. The numbers of contracts traded were 25,169. (Provisional)

BSE October 2026 futures traded at a premium of 15.70 points at 3107.70 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 3092.00. The numbers of contracts traded were 25,059. (Provisional)

Reliance Industries October 2026 futures traded at a premium of 3.80 points at 1190.80 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 1187.00. The numbers of contracts traded were 18,765. (Provisional)

ICICI Bank October 2026 futures traded at a premium of 7.50 points at 1329.20 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 1321.70. The numbers of contracts traded were 16,251. (Provisional)

Among, Nifty calls, 23000 SP from the October month expiry was the most active call with an addition of 6,025 units open interests. Among Nifty puts, 22000 SP from the October month expiry was the most active put with an addition of 7,126 units open interests. The maximum OI outstanding for Calls was at 23500 SP (1,38,622 units) and that for Puts was at 23000 SP (97,119 units). The respective Support and Resistance levels of Nifty are: Resistance 22754.80 -- Pivot Point 22675.00 -- Support 22540.65.

The Nifty Put Call Ratio (PCR) finally stood at (1.02) for October month contract. The top five scrips with highest PCR on Anand Rathi Wealth (1.41), REC (1.25), Polycab India (1.18), Bank of Baroda (1.17), and Prestige Estates Projects (1.15).

Among most active underlying HDFC Bank witnessed an addition of  6,244 units of Open Interest in the October month future, BSE witnessed an addition of 3,718 units of Open Interest in the October month future, ICICI Bank witnessed an addition of 274 units of Open Interest in the October month future, Reliance Industries witnessed an addition of 961 units of Open Interest in the October month futures and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise witnessed an addition of 3,525 units of Open Interest in the October month futures.
