Indian rupee softens marginally against US dollar on Friday
Sep-18-2026

Indian rupee has softened marginally against US dollar on Friday as continuous fund outflows from foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sparked caution among investors. FIIs were the net sellers on Thursday’s session offloading securities worth Rs 3,208.76 crore. Initially, rupee opened on a stronger note against the dollar amid easing global crude oil prices. Besides, Moody’s Ratings has sharply raised India’s GDP growth forecast for the current fiscal (FY27) to 7% from its earlier estimate of 6%, citing the country's resilience to global shocks arising from the conflict in the Middle East.  However, over the course of the session rupee got weakened amid persistent dollar strength. On the global front, euro has weakened against US dollar on Friday amid rising expectations of interest hike by European Central Bank.

Finally, the rupee ended at 95.91 (Provisional), weakened by 2 paise from its previous close of 95.89 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.93 and 95.71 respectively.
