Indian rupee shows mild strength against US dollar on Friday
Aug-21-2026

Indian rupee has shown mild strength against US dollar on Friday as support from weaker dollar was offset by lingering geopolitical tensions. Initially, rupee opened on stronger note against the dollar as jitters over large US budget deficits weakened the dollar. However, high crude oil prices have dampened investors risk sentiment with Brent crude oil prices trading above the $93 a barrel mark as tensions between US and Iran showed no signs of ease off.  On the global front, euro has strengthened against US dollar on Friday as Eurozone flash composite PMI rose to 52.1 in August 2026 from 52 in July, reaching a nine-month high.

Finally, the rupee ended at 95.71 (Provisional), strengthened by 3 paise from its previous close of 95.74 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.75 and 95.65 respectively.
