Markets add more gains in late trade

Indian equity markets added more gains in late afternoon session tracking positive cues from Asian markets as US treasury yields retreated after the Treasury Department announced that it will double long-duration bond buybacks to at least $4 billion per operation. Besides, foreign capital inflows into the Indian capital markets bolstered sentiment on the bourses. Foreign institutional investors were the net buyer on Wednesday’s session, buying securities worth Rs 407.99 crore. 

Sensex was trading with gains of near nine-tenths of a percent ahead of its weekly expiry of F&O contracts later in the day. Nifty was trading with gains of over half a percent supported buying in large cap Banking, Energy and Infrastructure stocks, while Metals, Healthcare and Capital goods stocks were the laggards. 

On the global front, Asian equity markets were trading mostly in green amid fall in US bond yields. European equity markets were trading lower as Brent crude oil prices traded near $94 a barrel mark amid lingering Middle East tensions.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 77576.78, up by 667.10 points or 0.87% after trading in a range of 77371.00 and 77611.11. There were 28 stocks advancing against 2 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Realty up by 2.02%, IT up by 1.04%, TECK up by 0.99%, FMCG up by 0.96% and Consumer Discretionary up by 0.86%, while there were no losers on BSE sectoral index. 

The top gainers on the Sensex were Eternal up by 2.28%, Kotak Mahindra Bank up by 1.61%, Infosys up by 1.54%, Bajaj Finance up by 1.50% and Ultratech Cement up by 1.37%. On the flip side, Tata Steel down by 0.41% and Interglobe Aviation down by 0.41% were the only losers.

Meanwhile, India is accelerating the expansion of its railway network with four new projects involving an investment of around Rs 9,450 crore. The projects, cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, are aimed at strengthening rail connectivity, improving transportation efficiency and supporting India’s broader economic development.

These projects encompass the Kharagpur-Bhadrak and Bhadrak-Haridaspur lines in Odisha and West Bengal, the Gummidipundi-Gudur lines in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, and the Cuttack-Paradeep lines in Odisha. The increased line capacity will significantly enhance mobility, resulting in improved operational efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways. 

These multi-tracking proposals are poised to streamline operations and alleviate congestion. The projects are in line with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vision of a New India which will make people of the region ‘Atmanirbhar’ by way of comprehensive development in the area which will enhance their employment/ self-employment opportunities.

The four projects covering 08 Districts across the states of West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 410 Kms. The proposed multi-tracking projects will enhance connectivity to approximately 6,448 villages, which are having a population of about 60 lakhs.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 24237.00, up by 158.70 points or 0.66% after trading in a range of 24184.55 and 24265.15. There were 40 stocks advancing against 9 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were Eternal up by 2.44%, Kotak Mahindra Bank up by 2.09%, Shriram Finance up by 1.79%, Bajaj Finance up by 1.74% and Eicher Motors up by 1.31%. On the flip side, Hindalco Industries down by 1.45%, Apollo Hospital Enterprises down by 0.72%, Interglobe Aviation down by 0.53%, Tata Consumer Products down by 0.51% and Nestle India down by 0.34% were the top losers.

Asian equity markets were trading mostly in green; Nikkei 225 surged 793.58 points or 1.2% to 66,120.00, Taiwan Weighted added 214.39 points or 0.48% to 44,933.74, Hang Seng advanced 234.93 points or 0.91% to 25,730.00, KOSPI increased 381.41 points or 5.57% to 6,852.58, Shanghai Composite strengthened 9.3 points or 0.24% to 3,903.72 and Jakarta Composite gained 114.14 points or 1.75% to 6,508.27, while Straits Times fell 24.9 points or 0.44% to 5,669.34.

European equity markets were trading lower; UK’s FTSE 100 decreased 19.88 points or 0.19% to 10,723.47, France’s CAC fell 6.81 points or 0.08% to 8,495.10 and Germany’s DAX lost 117.43 points or 0.45% to 25,973.90.
