Nifty snaps five-day losing streak on Monday

Snapping five-day losing streak, Indian equity benchmark -- Nifty ended sharply higher with gains of nearly a percent on Monday as crude oil prices tumbled after a pause in US-Iran military strikes, easing supply jitters in the West Asia region. Index made a gap-up start and remained higher throughout session, driven by broad based buying in across the sectors, led by IT stocks. Besides, traders took support as the Commerce Ministry stated the second round of negotiations for the proposed free trade agreement between India and Israel covering multiple issues such as trade in goods and services, rules of origin, technical barriers, intellectual property rights, customs procedures and trade facilitations have been concluded this week. Further, sentiments remained upbeat as industry body Assocham said the implementation of the India-UK free trade agreement is expected to boost India's exports to Britain to $115 billion by 2030. The agreement came into force on July 15 this year. Finally, Nifty ended near 24,000 mark.

All sectorial indices ended in Green. The top gainers from the F&O segment were Kfin Technologies, Laurus Labs and Container Corporation of India. On the other hand, the top losers were Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Supreme Industries and Bank of India. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 24100 - 24300 calls and 23900 - 24100 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.

India Volatility Index (VIX), a gauge for market’s short-term expectation of volatility decreased by 9.76% and reached 12.66. The 50 share Nifty down by 228.50 point or 0.96% to settle at 23,995.95.

Nifty July 2026 futures closed at 24040.00 (LTP) on Monday, at a premium of 44.05 points over spot closing of 23995.95, while Nifty August 2026 futures ended at 24118.00 (LTP), at a premium of 122.05 points over spot closing. Nifty July futures saw a contraction of 12,965, taking the total open interest (Contracts) to 1,44,978 units. The near month derivatives contract will expire on July 28, 2026. (Provisional)

From the most active contracts, Infosys July 2026 futures traded at a premium of 0.30 points at 1078.60 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 1078.30. The numbers of contracts traded were 85,651. (Provisional)

HDFC Bank July 2026 futures traded at a premium of 0.75 points at 741.00 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 740.25. The numbers of contracts traded were 83,636. (Provisional)

Reliance Industries July 2026 futures traded at a discount of 1.80 points at 1279.20 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 1281.00. The numbers of contracts traded were 53,657. (Provisional)

Tata Consultancy Services July 2026 futures traded at a discount of 0.90 points at 2296.00 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 2296.90. The numbers of contracts traded were 52,480. (Provisional)

ICICI Bank July 2026 futures traded at a discount of 1.10 points at 1444.40 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 1445.50. The numbers of contracts traded were 38,637. (Provisional)

Among, Nifty calls, 24000 SP from the July month expiry was the most active call with an addition of 4,936 units open interests. Among Nifty puts, 23900 SP from the July month expiry was the most active put with an addition of 1,52,387 units open interests. The maximum OI outstanding for Calls was at 24200 SP (2,29,642 units) and that for Puts was at 24000 SP (2,37,565 units). The respective Support and Resistance levels of Nifty are: Resistance 24041.18 -- Pivot Point 23966.37 -- Support 23921.13.

The Nifty Put Call Ratio (PCR) finally stood at (1.13) for July month contract. The top five scrips with highest PCR on Divi's Laboratories (1.56), Container Corporation of India (1.44), Bajaj Auto (1.23), United Spirits (1.21), and FSN E-Commerce Ventures (1.13).

Among most active underlying HDFC Bank witnessed an addition of 1,044 units of Open Interest in the July month future, Infosys witnessed a contraction of 23,925 units of Open Interest in the July month future, ICICI Bank witnessed an addition of 3,848 units of Open Interest in the July month future, Reliance Industries witnessed an addition of 3,721 units of Open Interest in the July month futures and Tata Consultancy Services witnessed a contraction of 5,367 units of Open Interest in the July month futures.
