Non-life insurers report 15% rise in gross direct premium underwritten for February 2026

The General Insurance Council in its latest data (Provisional) has showed that non-life insurers reported 14.46% rise in gross direct premium underwritten at Rs 23617.92 crore for the month of February 2026 (excluding specialised companies - Agricultural Insurance Company of India and ECGC) as compared to Rs 20633.93 crore in the February 2025.

Of the total, general insurance companies, with market share of 83.23%, garnered gross direct premium underwritten of Rs 19419.11 crore in the month under review as compared to Rs 17399.25 crore in the corresponding month of previous year, registering a growth of 11.61%. Among all, premium of Kshema General insurance Co up by 526.96%, Navi General Insurance Co up by 115.09%, Universal Sompo General Insurance Co up by 60.72%, Liberty General Insurance Co up by 46.46% and Zuno General Insurance Co up by 45.42%. 

Standalone health insurers, with market share of 13.02%, garnered gross direct premium underwritten of Rs 4198.81 crore in February 2026 as compared to Rs 3234.68 crore in February 2025, i.e. up by 29.81%. Among all, Galaxy Health Insurance Company up by 285.91%, Narayana Health Insurance company up by 228.33%, Niva bupa health insurance company up by 43.98%, Care Health Insurance co up by 41.70% and ManipalCigna Health Insurance Co up by 35.83%. 

Specialised insurers showed de-growth of 78.82% in gross direct premium underwritten at Rs 235.85 crore in February 2026 as compared to Rs 1113.64 crore in the February 2025. Within the specialised insurers, premium of Agricultural Insurance Company of India down by 89.43% in the month of February 2026, while ECGC was up by 10.94%.
