Goyal pitches for investment from Liechtenstein companies to strengthen India-EFTA trade pact
Jan-08-2026

In an effort to strengthen economic ties, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has invited Liechtenstein companies to invest in India and leverage the recent trade pact between India and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) to expand their presence. The Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and the EFTA, a bloc of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, came into effect on October 1, 2025. The minister made a significant official visit to Liechtenstein on January 7, 2026.

During his visit, Goyal invited Liechtenstein companies to use the agreement as a platform to grow their India presence, build manufacturing and innovation partnerships, and participate in India's expanding opportunities across sectors. He said India offers scale and reform momentum, a large and expanding consumer market, a deepening industrial base, and a sustained focus on ease of doing business, digitisation and infrastructure-led competitiveness.

The minister said both sides also exchanged views on the global business environment. He encouraged greater participation of EFTA companies in key trade and investment events in India and invited closer collaboration through business dialogues and delegations.
