Mallikarjun Kharge slams NDA government in Bihar on security situation for women
Nov-04-2025

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack on the BJP-JD(U) government in Bihar over the security situation for women and asserted that the Mahagathbandhan is fully committed to their empowerment and economic upliftment.

Mallikarjun Kharge said, ‘The BJP-JDU government in Bihar has been in power for 20 years. If even today, Modi ji has to say that in Bihar 'daughters-in-law and daughters are not safe', then this is his own self-admission that in 20 years, they have not made Bihar safe’.

Congress President said the Congress' promises are not just to garner votes during elections or right before them, but rather, they are the same promises that the party will fulfil. ‘The condition of women and children in Bihar is extremely worrying,’ Kharge said, citing data from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) that shows 70 percent of children in Bihar suffer from anemia and 40 percent are malnourished. Only 11 percent of infants receive adequate nutrition.

Mallikarjun Kharge stated that if the Grand Alliance forms a government, women's empowerment and economic advancement will be given top priority. Referring to the Grand Alliance's promises to women, he said that women will receive financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month, Rs 1,500–3,000 pension for elderly/widows/disabled. He also announced government recognition for Jeevika Didi.

The remarks come amid escalating Bihar Assembly election campaigns, with Phase 1 voting on Nov 6.  The opposition INDIA bloc, which has the RJD, Congress and the Left parties as the main constituents, has declared RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav its chief ministerial candidate for the Bihar polls.
