Rupee appreciates against dollar on Thursday

Indian rupee appreciated against the U.S. dollar on Thursday buoyed by a softer American currency against major currencies. Sentiments were positive as commerce ministry in its latest data has showed that India’s merchandise exports grew 6.74 per cent to $36.38 billion in September 2025 as compared to $34.08 billion in September 2024. Imports jumped by 16.6 per cent year-on-year to $68.53 billion in September 2025 as compared to $58.74 billion in September 2024. Besides, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that the IMF's upward revision of India's GDP growth forecast for the current fiscal to 6.6 per cent reflects the country's economic resilience and strong fundamentals. On the global front, British pound strengthened against other major currencies in the European session on Thursday, after the UK economy expanded slightly as expected in August on the back of the production sector.

Finally, the rupee ended at 87.95 (Provisional), appreciated by 13 paise from its previous close of 88.08 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 87.95 and 87.68 respectively.
