Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Thursday
Apr-17-2025
The Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Thursday, boosted by a renewed inflow of foreign funds into the Indian capital market. Foreign institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 3,936.42 crore on a net basis on Wednesday, exchange data showed. Hopes of easing trade tensions and renewed optimism surrounding economic stimulus in China have also supported rupee sentiments. Following a 245% tariff on Chinese goods, China expressed willingness to negotiate with the US under certain conditions. However, subdued domestic equities, firm American currency and a slight recovery in crude oil prices kept rupee under pressure and limited further gains.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 85.53, stronger by 11 paise from its previous close of 85.64 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 85.5875 and 85.4750 respectively.
