India’s fiscal deficit widens to 56.7% of full-year target in April-December

The Controller General of Accounts (CGA) in its latest data report has showed that the India’s fiscal deficit touched 56.7 per cent of the Budget Estimate (BE) level of Rs 16.13 lakh crore at the end of December 2024 (April-December).

In actual terms, the fiscal deficit -- the gap between expenditure and revenue -- was Rs 9.14 lakh crore during the April-December 2024-25. For the same period last financial year, fiscal deficit was at Rs 9.8 lakh crore, or 55 per cent of BE. 

According to the data report, total receipts stood at Rs 23.18 lakh crore, while overall expenditure in April to December was at Rs 32.32 lakh crore. They were 72.3 per cent and 67 per cent of this fiscal year's budget target. Total receipts in the year-earlier period were at 76.3 per cent of estimate, while expenditure was at 67.8 per cent a year earlier.
