Copper futures settle lower on Thursday
Oct-09-2026
Copper futures settled lower on Thursday, even as supply anxieties out of Chilean mines and broader global demand related to AI data centre and energy grid buildouts persisted. Markets remained cautious after minutes from the Federal Reserve's September meeting showed unanimous support among all 19 policymakers for the latest rate increase, and most officials expected another hike to be appropriate before year-end. Moreover, soaring oil prices also dampened demand outlook for industrial metals.

Copper futures for December delivery fell $0.081 to settle at $6.5685 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was down by 1.15% at $14,309 a ton.
