Copper futures settle higher on Thursday
Sep-04-2026
Copper futures settled higher on Thursday, driven by a weaker American currency against its major peers overseas as expectations of a September Federal Reserve interest rate hike faded following dovish comments from a central bank official. Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller stated he would support leaving interest rates unchanged if data continue to show moderating inflation pressures. Investors are closely watching Friday’s August jobs report for further cues on the Fed’s policy outlook. Meanwhile, copper prices were also supported by persistent market anxieties that the United States may impose import tariffs on unprocessed or refined copper.

Copper futures for December delivery rose $0.0715 to settle at $6.6645 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was up by 0.83% at $14,333.50 a ton.
