Copper futures settle higher as US dollar fell overseas
Sep-01-2026
Copper futures settled higher on Monday as the US dollar fell against its major peers overseas, which made copper cheaper for buyers using other currencies. Moreover, ongoing supply-side constraints also kept copper prices under pressure. Meanwhile, traders continued redirecting copper shipments toward the United States to beat possible new import tariffs which drain supplies in other parts of the world. However, gains were limited by growing expectations that the Federal Reserve would hike interest rates next month, following Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s hawkish remarks in the face of rising inflation risks.

Copper futures for December delivery rose $0.0285 to settle at $6.6875 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange.
