Copper futures settle down as US dollar strengthens
Aug-29-2026
Copper futures settled lower on Friday as the US dollar strengthened against its major peers overseas following Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s hawkish remarks on inflation during his speech at the Jackson Hole economic symposium, which heightened expectations for an interest rate hike. A stronger US currency made copper more expensive for buyers using other currencies.

Copper futures for December delivery fell $0.03 to settle at $6.6590 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. However, Copper on the London Metal Exchange was up by 0.08% at $14,294 a ton.
