Crude oil futures end lower on Friday

Crude oil futures ended lower on Friday amid reports that Washington was close to gaining access to Venezuela’s oil reserves and U.S. companies Chevron and Halliburton could invest billions of dollars in Venezuelan oil fields. Meanwhile, data from Baker Hughes showed that the total number of active drilling rigs for oil and gas in the United States stayed the same this week, with the total rig count in the US staying at 588, up 52 from this same time last year.

Benchmark crude oil futures for October delivery fell by $0.13 or 0.16% to settle at $83.40 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for November delivery declined by $0.42 or 0.47% to settle at $88.10 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
