Copper futures settle down as US dollar strengthens overseas
Aug-27-2026
Copper futures settled down on Wednesday as the US dollar strengthened against its major peers overseas after a batch of US economic data, including a reading on inflation, slightly lifted expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike ahead of the Jackson Hole central bankers’ symposium due to begin later on Thursday. A stronger dollar makes copper more expensive for buyers using other currencies. Copper prices weakened further as a severe market squeeze in the metal eased.

Copper futures for September delivery fell $0.1145 to settle at $6.5995 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was down by 0.67% at $14,253 a ton.
