Copper futures settle down on Thursday
Aug-21-2026
Copper futures settled lower on Thursday as investors continued to monitor geopolitical developments as the US prepares sweeping new economic sanctions against Iran, which pushed Brent crude oil prices higher and added inflation concerns. Meanwhile, a recent increase in metal deliveries to London Metal Exchange warehouses helped ease a historic supply squeeze and weighed down copper prices. However, some falls were limited because top producer Chile expects copper output to decline this year, as ongoing disruptions continue to affect mines and development projects.

Copper futures for September delivery fell $0.027 to settle at $6.4690 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was down by 0.09% at $14,036.50 a ton.
