Copper futures settle marginally higher on Monday
Aug-18-2026
Copper futures settled marginally higher on Monday amid a weaker dollar as traders scaled back expectations for an imminent Federal Reserve interest rate hike this year following a run of weak US economic data. A surge in copper shipments to the United States in anticipation of potential import tariffs created a severe market squeeze and supported higher copper prices. However, some gains were limited by the expiration of the temporary US-Iran ceasefire without an extension and a series of disappointing Chinese economic indicators.

Copper futures for September delivery rose $0.003 to settle at $6.6160 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was down by 0.02% at $14,157.50 a ton.
