Aug-17-2026

Crude oil futures ended higher on Friday after the U.S. said its naval blockade of Iranian ports could continue indefinitely, raising fresh concerns about energy supplies through the key Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly said the U.S. military has the capability to maintain a naval presence in West Asia to enforce the blockade of Iran.

Benchmark crude oil futures for September delivery rose by $1.15 or 1.42% to settle at $82.40 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for October delivery gained by $1.45 or 1.67% to settle at $88.52 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
